I got to see Barry Gibb and The BEEGEES' band perform LIVE!!! It was at Love & Hope 2004 and the concert was "Swinging On A Star".
Barry sang with his band--and Peter Graves' fifty piece orchestra!!! BARRY was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! He sang about ten songs or so. "As Time Goes By" "Summer Wind" "Strangers In The Night" songs like these. Plus, as a tribute to his younger brother, Maurice, Barry sang "Send In The Clowns". I don't believe there are now, nor ever were, more professional performers on the entire planet than The BEEGEES, Barry...Robin...and Maurice Gibb. I wish that EVERY BEEGEES FAN ON EARTH could one day get to experience a LIVE performance by one or more of The Brothers Gibb!!! Because, until you have actually been in the room (stadium, auditorium, etc.) with them and personally felt the ELECTRICITY that is generated by these three guys--singing, playing and performing their hearts out for their fans--you don't really realize the FULL effect of their MUSICAL GENIUS!!! They are TRULY TALENTED--BEYOND BELIEF!!! As for Barry's tribute to Maurice... It was such a beautiful...touching moment. We all cried. You couldn't help but cry. Barry came right out and admitted that he wasn't very good at making speeches. His forte' is singing. So, he said that the best way for him to express his feelings (for his brother's loss) was in a song. I was reminded of Robert Louis Stevenson's words: "It is an ill business...turning to the world a smiling face When you carry in your breast...a broken heart." I also thought of the words to one of Frank Sinatra's songs, "Cycles" : "So I'll keep on trying to sing But, please...just don't ask me now." We all knew how Barry's heart must have been breaking as he sang. But, being the consumate professional that he is... he made it through the entire song. Which he sang sooooooo beautifully. It was the most touching rendition of "Send In The Clowns" that I have ever heard!!! While he sang, images of Maurice, and the people closest to him, appeared on these two enormous screens, on either side of the stage. I couldn't always see them too clearly. Appropriately, there were lots of shots of Maurice 'clowning' around. There were these little white candles burning on everyone's tables. A few of us fans stood and raised them high, as Barry sang. Barry is one INCREDIBLY CLASSY, TRULY TALENTED... PROFESSIONAL PERFORMER!!! (Wild applause and standing ovation) Maurice was always clowning around. After his concert ended, I brought a bouquet of a dozen white roses--with baby's breath--up to the stage and set them down at his feet. "We wanted to give you these before you go," I announced. Barry glanced down...gave me the most incredible "EVERLASTING SMILE"...and exclaimed: "Oh!...Wow!...Thank you very much! Actually, we've been looking for something to put there," he added--with a giggle, seeing that I placed the vase between these two boring speakers. (That guy has the cutest, most infectious giggle...he he he) (We won't even get into his gorgeous smile. For fear I shall surely swoon...sigh) I returned his smile...and then spun around, to start heading back to our table...only to discover that more fans had converged on the stage area...so that I was hopelessly 'trapped'--dead center--at the foot of the stage. Right about then, Barry began his 'encore' performance. Everyone immediately ducked down, to allow others to see the rest of the show. So...there I was...kneeling right in front of CENTER stage...in my black, full-length evening gown...with about eight or so other--similarly clad--fans... Barry sang two more songs...all the while, smiling down at--and making DIRECT EYE CONTACT with just the eight of us!!!! It was almost like having our very own UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL Barry Gibb concert!!!! Barry flashed ME about a DOZEN of his GORGEOUS smiles—THUD!!! he he he...I told yah I would surely swoon. After the concert, I got to shake Barry's hand...sigh My Bee Gees' buddy, Karen Louie, took this photo of Barry's EVERLASTING SMILE. This message has been edited. The first time I saw the Bee Gees on stage was on February 16, 1974. They sang with a symphonic orchestra and their new single was "heavy breathing". I was seated on the 4th row. They sang HEAVY BREATHING, DON'T FORGET TO REMEMBER, DON'T WANNA LIVE INSIDE MYSELF, LET THERE BE LOVE, I CAN'T SEE NOBODY, WORLD, WORDS, WOULDN'T I BE SOMEONE, TO LOVE SOMEBODY, I STARTED A JOKE, MASSACHUSSETTS, AND THE SUN WILL SHINE, RUN TO ME, GOTTA GET A MESSAGE, ROAD TO ALASKA, MELODY FAIR, A MEDLEY WITH ALEXANDER RAG TIME ( DON'T REMEBER THE SONGS IN THE MEDLEY) AND LONELY DAYS to end the show.
All these songs titles were written in my Bee Gees book after the show. I coudn't remember after all those years. I saw the Bee Gees a few times in Montréal,( 1975-76-79-89). That's all for now! Bye! Lorraine |

I saw the Bee Gees first time live when I was a young boy of 16 in 1968 here in Cologne (Köln) Germany. At that time the Bee Gees themselve were young boys below twenty. They were the first boygroup at a time were this word was unknown. Since Massachusetts and their performance in the german TV show "Beat Club" I am a fan forever.
I have rearly today the words of Barry in my ears regarding the rumors of the first splitt of the group: "Every word of splitting up of the Bee gees ar not true" (And this with my little school englisch experience at that time). But in 1969 the main group was separated and Robin start his first Solo with "Saved by the bell" Sadness first. The second time beeing at a Bee Gees live concert was round about twenty years later in 1989 at Frankfurt and I feel great. Two years later I would like to see them again but the concert tour was partly canceld, as I could remember. It was a wish of mine from that time on to see the Bee Gees again if possible. It was a great sadness that Maurice died in 2003 and that I would never see the three Brothers together again. I saw Robin on the 2004 Tour in Stuttgart, but sorry, he alone (and his voice) is brillant, but he could never substitute the Bee Gees in his total performance. I will keep the concerts in my memories and sometimes look on the TV the One night only DVD. |

i saw the bee gees performing when i was 15 in barcelona, spain, 1991.
it was a dream for me, i couldn't believe that all three were in front of me. i was with my sister because i was too young to go alone and my sister enjoyed it a lot too. i remember Mo saying in "catalan- bona nit barcelona" good night barcelona. robin with his long and blonde hair and barry drinking water at the end of every song. in 1993 or 94 was planned another concert in barcelona but the health of barry was not good at this time at was canceled. i saw robin in germany in 2004, magnetic tour, in stuttgart, bonn and frankfurt, with more fans from spain. it was a great experience, and robin was brilliant with the orchestra, well , you all know if you have seen the dvd. but i need more!! hope next year barry and him do some concerts in europe, i only can go to cities that can arrived by car, train or ship,no planes, i could go to the states by ship but i would have to sell all my pertenences, including my house, lol!! it's too expensive!!!!robin concert in bonn, two spanish fans and me |

Angela,
How cool to find someone who has been to a Love & Hope cpncert - for me it was 1989 - 10 years after seeing the Gibbs in Chicago in 1979. I was so excited - it was my 21st b-day and I bought the tix. Realized about 6 months later that I chose the 21st row in the 21st section AND the 21st seat....it was meant to be...and I have never forgotten it or them. Thanks for sharing Kathy |
