I preordered mine and can't wait to hear it!

Question:
About The BEE GEES' new box set Studios Albums being released this November...?

Choices:
I pre-ordered the set via the internet
I intend to purchase from store

Undecided

The Box Set is not released in Australia until January 13th. I would normally order it from overseas but being a box set postage is too expensive. I already have the original CD's but look forward to purchasing the box set as a collector and of course huge fan. Cannot wait for bonus disks.

I realize that the box set's been available for over a year now in the US, but I have had a very hard time coming across it, either online or in a retail store.

But I absolutely love the approach they took. I was wondering about something, for those who have it.

Are the mono versions the same as the stereo versions? back in that day, it wasn't unheard of for them to re-record each album in mono and stereo, so you were actually getting two separate albums. Also, how is the sound quality? i expect they did a lot of work to get it up to par.

Cubdukat:

Merry Christmas!

I can answer your questions regarding the Bee Gees Studio Albums Box Set:

I received it as a birthday gift last year, and it was well worth it!
All three discs come with booklets about each album. As for the sound quality, they have improved on the original releases. There are significant differences on the mono/stereo mixes.

For example, on Bee Gees 1st:

1. Mono version: "Every Christian Lion-Hearted Man Will Show You" has no echoes on the track, and the vocals are much more up front. "Craise Finton Kirk's Royal Academy of Arts" has echo on the vocals, and no overdub. On "New York Mining Disaster, 1941", the fade out of the last "Mr. Jooones" is complete. On the stereo mix, it cuts off. On "Cucumber Castle" when he sings the refrain there are no horns on it till the very end.

"Horizontal"
(Mono Mix)
1. "World" is longer, extra refrain.
2. "Birdie Told Me" has the vocal more up front.
3. "Lemons Never Forget" is more up front with vocal.
4. "Massachusetts" sounds more crisp.
5. "Harry Braff" (Now this one will blow your mind): The Horns are much louder, this version
will put you right there!
6. "Horizontal" No echo on vocal.
7. "The Earnest Of Being George" Also no echo.

"Idea"

This entire album in mono is a completely different listening experience!
ALL of the tracks are different. It's not just a mix down of the stereo version, none of the CDs are, I mean when I bought the MONO LP of "Horizontal", I had to stop what I was doing. I couldn't believe the difference. I think in some ways, they recorded the MONO version first. On all the LPs. The Beatles did the same until the White Album. Actually that was MONO in England only, as was "Idea", U.S. only had promos in MONO of "Idea". The groups usually preferred MONO, and had nothing to do with the STEREO. They let the producers handle it.

Cub, hope this helps, if you need any more info, don't hesitate.
"Checkered Flag for Harry Braaaaafff!"
Sincerely
Nick

Thanks for the info. I've done a lot of "hinting around" to friends and family, and hopefully one of them will take the hint that I want this Smiler

I thought there was a box set "tales from the Brothers Gibb"

I have some 45rpm's that are mono and sound good.

almost all beach boys stuff was mono, then remixed in stereo later, but that was because Brian Wilson was deaf in one ear, his father beat him so bad he went deaf.
