He was the drummer. He played on some of their early Australian recordings and was included in the band together with lead guitarist Vince Melouney when the Gibb brothers returned to England in 1967. Vince left prior to the release of Best of Bee Gees.

You may want to get "The Ultimate Biography of the Bee Gees - Tales of the Brothers Gibb". Co-authored by Melinda Bilyeu, Hector Cook and Andrew Môn Hughes with assistance from Joseph Brennan and Mark Crohan. All noted Bee Gees fans and very knowledgable.

It is a thick book, small text and a hard read and nothing you will finish in an evening. It contains many new interviews with people they've worked with throughout their career. There has been a number of updated versions of this book as well, including translated versions for Russia and Germany.

I should point out that the book got some flack by the brothers after it was issued, despite the fact that the authors sent the script to the Bee Gees' representatives for approval and also omitted parts per their advise.
